Round 1 Golf Lessons | Mental Game of Tournament Golf

Tournament golf has a way of exposing exactly where you’re at — not just physically, but mentally.
Round 1 at Lake Jovita was one of those days for me.
Coming into the round, the goal was clear: stay patient, trust the game plan, and play my own game.
But as the round went on, I found myself drifting away from that.
The group I was playing with was playing really well. Scores were low, and instead of staying in my own rhythm, I started to feel like I was falling behind.
That feeling can creep in fast.
And once it does, it’s easy to start pressing — trying to make things happen instead of letting them happen.
That’s exactly where things started to slip for me.
Looking back, nothing drastic needed to change. It wasn’t about my swing or my ability.
It was about staying patient and trusting that my game would show up if I just stayed committed to it.
That’s one of the hardest parts of golf at this level.
You’re not just competing against the course — you’re competing against your own thoughts.
Round 1 wasn’t the result I wanted.
But it was a reminder.
Stay in your own lane.
Stay patient.
Trust the process.
Because there’s always another opportunity to respond.
