Practice Round Day | Preparing My Game for Tournament Week

Tournament weeks don’t really begin on the first tee.

They begin in preparation.

For me, that preparation starts in the gym.

Strength training has transformed my golf game in ways that most people probably don’t see. Back in 2022, when I had one of my best seasons, my training routine was extremely consistent.

But in 2023, life got busy. Travel, schedule changes, and everything else that comes with professional golf made it harder to maintain the same consistency.

I still showed up in the gym occasionally, but not with the same commitment that helped elevate my game before.

Getting back into that routine has reminded me how important it is.

After the gym session, it was time to get ready and head to the course for my first practice round of the week. My tee time was at 1:30 in the afternoon, which gave us plenty of time to settle into the day.

The golf course in Dade City turned out to be a really cool surprise.

It’s tucked away out in the middle of nowhere, but sometimes those are the places where you find the best courses. The NXXT Tour has been giving us the chance to play some really solid venues, and this one definitely fits that category.

Practice rounds are where the real learning happens.

It’s about understanding the greens, identifying the trouble spots, and building the strategy for the tournament rounds ahead.

Every hole is a small puzzle that you start piecing together before competition begins.

After finishing up at the course, the day wrapped up in the best way possible — food.

My caddie and I found a spot called China Wok for dinner, and honestly it might have been the best orange chicken I’ve had in a long time.

One practice round down.

One more to go before the tournament begins.
